Lithionics IonBus® with multiple BMSs Installer Guide

Modified on Thu, 29 Feb at 6:33 PM

Overview: Lithionics IonBus® is a CAN based communications protocol which combines internal communications between the BMS and the attached battery module(s) with external communications between the BMS and the rest of the customer’s system components, such as control panels, inverters, chargers, etc.

When multiple BMSs are connected in parallel to the same DC bus their CAN interfaces are typically linked together into a single CAN network, which requires that each connected device has a unique address. Each BMS must also assign unique IDs to the battery module(s) attached to that specific BMS. All BMSs and modules shipping from Lithionics factory have default Battery ID=1, referred to as BATID=1, and CAN Source Address = 70, referred to as CANSA=70. When connecting additional BMSs to the same system the installer must readdress all BMSs except the first one, along with their respective battery modules. This document provides step by step instructions on how to do it.
